This project for a private retired Client in the countryside provides ‘supported living accommodation’ of a very high standard. The accommodation comprises a large double height kitchen dining area and adjacent living rooms, with bedrooms provided at ground and first floor levels, the first floor being served by a lift. The building has been designed to use a variety of local materials including stone, slate and oak all insulated to a high standard. It is proposed that heating will be provided using a ground source heat pump, there will also be rainwater harvesting and the use of renewable energy supplies. The project has just started on site.

A Client had acquired a small plot of land and required assistance in order to maximise the potential for the site. bmd initially carried out investigations with the Local Planning Authority to establish the possible uses on the site and scale of development allowed. The design provides residential accommodation in accordance with the Mayor of London space standards and was praised for providing a standard to follow for redevelopment of adjacent vacant sites.
This proposal was for a development of four townhouses and two detached houses on a steeply sloping site. The front section of the site adjacent the main highway is the location for the townhouses which have been designed to integrate with the existing streetscape. The two houses to the rear of the site are accessed from an adjacent residential street and are located to take advantage of the existing site topography. All six houses provide four bedrooms and family living accommodation
