Mixed Use Development
 

bmd Architects has been lead consultant for many mixed use schemes. Shown is a scheme involving the retention of the façade of a listed former hospital building with the entire redevelopment of the site to provide a large retail unit, adjacent smaller retail units and residential flats.  The site and buildings behind the main façade were completely redeveloped to provide space for a major retailer’s food store at ground level with customer parking to the rear. Conservation work was carried out to the listed façade and a replica wing constructed to the right-hand side with arched access to the parking behind.  The new flats were built behind the main elevation and also in a new wing with a tenant’s garden area created over the top of the roof to the retail space, parking for residents being provided in a basement car park. A detached three storey building was also built to the side comprising housing association flats over retail units

Office Developments / Refurbishments

The Practice has worked on numerous office schemes over the years from new build corporate headquarters to extensions and alterations to existing buildings. We have worked with developers on speculative office space and been retained by the tenants to fit out the building to their requirements. Office Space planning exercises have also been carried out for banks and other financial services.

Listed Buildings

Although not a specialist conservation Practice, bmd has a strong track record in involvement with historic buildings.  Projects have included restoration of Georgian townhouses in Central London with sympathetic conversion work to convert the buildings into commercial use ensuring their survival.  The Practice always carries out extensive research to ensure design detailing is appropriate for the age of the building although of necessity complying with the latest regulations.

Tesco Stores Ltd

The Practice has a long association with Tesco starting back in the 1970's We have worked on all size of store formats from the small Metro units, medium sized Superstores to the largest Extras.  These commissions have comprised involvement at all stages of the construction programme from initial feasibilities, through store design and planning application stages to preparation of construction drawings.  More recently bmd Architects has been one of the key Practices involved with Tesco Dotcom and Tesco Click + Collect assisting with the creation of new facilities and extensions to existing operations.

Retail Developments

bmd Architects has a long association with major retailers and has completed many schemes from single occupancy sites to retail parks all over the country. The locations have ranged from redevelopment of greenfield sites to brownfield sites including infill spaces within town centres. The Practice has often been involved at feasibility and master planning stage to assist in determining the most economic proposals for the site. Schemes have been prepared for shell developers and also end users including architectural support for fit-out contractors.
